As a young boy, Pelé was breeder-owner handled to his championship. After completing his American championship, Pelé was shown in Canada. By the time he completed his Canadian championship, he was the number one Briard dog in Canada, 1999. He continued to be shown in Canada for 1999 and 2000 and finished the year as the number 1 Briard dog in Canada. In 2001, still breeder-owner handled by Denise, Pele competed for 7 months as a special in the United States and finished the year as the number 4 Briard (AKC). He was the number one breeder-owner handled Briard in North America.
Pelé also competed in UKC and finished multiple years as the number one Briard. In UKC Pelé was the first black Briard ever to win a group 1 and also the first ever Briard to become a Grand Champion.
In 2005, Pelé was sponsored by the bestselling author, Jeffery Deaver and co-sponsor Madilyn Warcholik. For 2005, he was the loving “family” member , cared for and proudly handled by Adriano Rocha and Miyuki Ueno-Rocha and assisted by Luiz Abreu. We are forever grateful to Jeffery, Madilyn, Miyuki, Adriano and Luiz for the wonderful things that Pelé accomplished while with them. Most notable of these accomplishments were winning the title of “World Champion” at the 2005 World Dog Show in Buenos Aires , Argentina , being the first black Briard in 26 years to win Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club, and winning Best In Specialty Show at the Briard Club of America Regional Specialty under esteemed breeder judge David Behrens.
Pelé continues to be shown occasionally as a veteran and is still accomplishing wonders winning Best In Show as a Veteran at the 2006 International All Breed Canine Association Show, Best Bred by Exhibitor Briard at the 2006 Eukanuba National Championships.
Besides continuing to see Pelé in the show ring as a proudly breeder-owner handled veteran Briard, you will also see his children and grandchildren accomplishing feats in the show ring, such as BCA National Specialty WD, BCA National Specialty WB, AOM, Top 10 AKC and UKC, BCA Regional Specialty Best Puppy, Best In Sweepstakes, AOM and many others. Pele is now having fun as a king of the DIOR household and serving as a therapy dog for In-Home Hospice. He is available as a stud dog to approved bitches.
