Raising DIOR Puppies
Very special care is taken in raising all DIOR Briard puppies. From their pre-natal care to their trip to their new homes, DIOR Briard puppies, our babies, are "SPECIAL DELIVERED"!
The DIOR baby Briards are whelped in the master bedroom in a whelping box. They are watched and cared for 24 hours a day for the first weeks of their life. They are handled and touched multiple times each day as well as weighed to determine their gain. Special care is taken to make sure that the puppies stay clean as this helps later in housebreaking. Each Briard puppy has a different color neckband and a record is kept of their growth.
After the puppies eyes are open and they are beginning to explore and play, they are transferred to a play area in the family/kitchen room The toys are changed daily and the puppies are exposed to new sounds, platforms, ramps, boxes to crawl on or in, toys to cuddle, toys to carry, toys to squeek, toys to walk under, different surfaces to walk over and a puppy litter box to help with potty training. The puppies continue to nurse and are gradually weaned by 6 weeks of age. They are gradually transitioned to a high quality holistic, organic, human grade puppy food for large breeds.
The Briard puppies are never kept in a kennel or away from the family. They are accustomed to the normal sounds of the home. The puppies are handled and carried daily experiencing adults and children as well as adult Briards. If the weather permits, the puppies have time to run, explore and play in the yard. Puppies also go for car rides and usually have taken a long trip before they go to their new home.
Because we know that the early experiences of the puppies determines their intelligence, adaptability to stressful situations, capacity for work and performance and companionship with people and other animals, nothing is left to chance.
We methodicaly and safely expose the puppies to all kind of experiences, situations and relationships so that they are well-adjusted and can enjoy all of life's challenges. Most especially, they are shown much softness and kindness so that they too will learn from experience that the alphas are kind and loving.
